In his position as MD of Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Central and Easter Europe, Stefan Zilch (37) has managed all of Spotify’s sales activities in these markets since May 2012. The company has a unique position in these three countries as the only music streaming service providing a free, ad-financed and unlimited 6-month trial period. Together with his marketing team, Stefan showcases Spotify’s advantages among advertising clients and agencies, including the use of marketing instruments such as digital audio.
Stefan has many years of experience in the fields of display marketing, social media, music and entertainment and mobile Internet. Spotify combines all of these, which is why he feels right at home at the company. What online advertising was and what it’s capable of achieving – these are things that Stefan was able to influence as one of the field’s pioneers from the very beginning. Indeed, he’s been active in a number of different positions for online portals and media companies in Germany and Great Britain since 1999, including Sportgate, T- Online International, InteractiveMedia, MySpace and Madvertise.
At MySpace, where music and Internet business also overlap considerably, Stefan held similar responsibilities to the ones he now holds at Spotify. In May 2007, for example, he acted as sales director in charge of organizing the development of a sales team for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He went on to market innovative Web formats for the music and entertainment industry over the course of the subsequent four years.
