Today we’re very excited to announce the launch of new gapless playback and crossfade features for all Spotify users as part of our latest upgrade, which begins rolling out this week.
Gapless playback lets the songs flow seamlessly, one to the next, without any silent spaces in-between – perfect for dance and classical music, live recordings and concept albums.
Spotify’s latest update will have gapless playback switched ‘on’ by default in Preferences, letting you listen to your music the way it was meant to be heard.
Another much-requested feature coming to Spotify is the ability to crossfade songs – fading out one song as you bring another in. Perfect for parties – now you can DJ to your heart’s content!
You can select the exact number of seconds you want your songs to crossfade (from 1 to 12 seconds) by visiting your Spotify Preferences and flipping the ‘on’ switch.
Record producer and DJ Paul Oakenfold’s already a fan: “I use Spotify daily,” he says. “Many of my own releases are mixed so I’m delighted to hear Spotify will now offer gapless playback and crossfade so my fans can experience the mixes on Spotify in the way they normally do in the clubs.”
To hear what a difference gapless playback makes give Paul Oakenfold’s new record a spin: Paul Oakenfold – Four Seasons – Winter (Mixed Version).
